Chiropractic care
Chiropractic care is a hands-on complementary form of health care. The primary goal of a chiropractor is to find and eliminate the causes of pain rather than simply treating symptoms. Chiropractic care focuses on bones, joints, muscles and nerves using non-invasive and drug-free treatments. Chiropractors are experts in the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders and offer safe, highly effective, and extensively researched treatments for a wide variety of injuries and conditions. Dr. Burnie is trained and proficient in a variety of techniques, and would be happy to discuss treatment options including gentle manual adjustments, electrical stimulation, and other effective therapies.

Acupuncture
The intent of acupuncture therapy is to promote health and alleviate pain and suffering. Although founded in traditional Chinese medicine dating back over 5,000 years, acupuncture is now performed with a combination of traditional methods and modern medical knowledge. The National Institutes of Health and World Health Organization have endorsed the used of acupuncture for a wide array of conditions based on over 40 years of extensive research by Western medical researchers. Dr. Burnie received his acupuncture training from the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute through the University of Toronto medical continuing education program and completed his Acupuncture Fellowship training from McMaster University.

Soft tissue therapies
The term 'soft tissue' refers mainly to muscles, ligaments and tendons. Many lifestyles, from active to inactive, can lead to sore and achy muscles from a variety of causes. The best treatment for such discomfort is often to massage out the tension and chemical irritants that lead to muscle pain, stiffness and weakness. Dr. Burnie offers a variety of manual massage techniques as well as electrical stimulation techniques to relax those muscles. Soft tissue therapies are very beneficial for muscles strains, repetitive stress injuries and overall tension.

Custom foot orthotics
Proper orthotics are created based on a mold of your foot with modifications based on your needs. They are designed to fit your feet more efficiently than over-the-counter arch supports and balance the biomechanical inadequacies of your feet and legs. There is strong research evidence for the use of properly made orthotics as a very effective treatment for many conditions. The most common reasons people use foot orthotics are for arch and heel pain (Plantar Fasciitis), lower leg tendonitis (shin splints and Achilles tendonitis), knee pain, hip pain, and low back pain. In addition to his training as a Chiropractor, Dr. Burnie has received training and credentialing as a Certified Pedorthist.

Custom fitted compression socks
Custom fitted compression stockings or socks are an effective treatment for foot and ankle swelling, varicose veins, tired and achy legs, and prevention of deep vein thrombosis (leg blood clots). In addition to treatment of various medical conditions, compression stockings are often recommended for women during pregnancy and people going on long-distance trips. Please see Dr. Burnie for an examination and leg measurement.

Rehabilitation
One of the most important aspects of the healing process is not merely the reduction of pain but the return to normal activity. Dr. Burnie holds a Masters degree in rehabilitation science in addition to his Doctor of Chiropractic degree, giving him a very strong knowledge of rehabilitation techniques. Your personal 'rehab' program will include activities that are enjoyable and will help you regain the strength, endurance, flexibility and control that may been lost.
